Take Care OutBack There is part of a three year state-wide program funded by the Department of Health that aims to promote and improve sexual health for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer, (GLBTQ) Victorian’s living in regional and rural communities.
We know that for some people, living in rural and regional areas where we are sometimes seen as ‘different’ can be isolating. The more connected we are to our communities the better our health outcomes. To this end, we work with established and new GLBTQ groups and event organisers to help facilitate new networks where sexual health promotion can take place, keeping sexual health on the agenda and making it a part of our everyday lives.
The overall goal is to enhance the environments in which our communities work rest and play, so that people have access to information, and the ability and confidence to take care of themselves and their mates. We have a focus on sexual health for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer Victorians, especially the prevention of HIV and STI transmission. We also think that these things are inextricably linked in to a broader idea of well-being. Through engaging with groups in the community to develop or support resources and events which are fun, sex positive, and enhance safe sex culture, we hope to be a part of increasing the resilience and well being of the queer community overall.
